Sue has developed a powerful coaching methodology which she has used successfully with a wide range of individuals seeking to improve their personal outcomes. Much of this work has been in the context of broader leadership development programs.
Moments of Choice
Sue’s coaching approach is based on a belief that learning is about choice. All coaching interventions are aimed at enhancing clients’ insight about the results that their current behaviour is achieving and helping them develop alternate strategies and approaches in order that they may make conscious choice about their future approach. Sue is skilled at helping clients to:
- Become clear about the outcomes they want;
- Develop high self awareness and perception so they can judge whether or not they are achieving their outcomes;
- Increase their personal flexibility to change what they are doing;
- Make a conscious choice about their behaviour in order to achieve their desired outcomes.
Sue’s overall coaching approach is strength based and future focussed.
- Appreciative enquiry is used to garner learning from areas of life where the participant has effective strategies;
- Feedback: positive and constructive feedback is used within in a strong relational frame.
- 360 degree feedback is used to help participants understand how they are perceived by others.
- NLP learning levels model is used to help participants begin to see and make decisions about act upon unconscious patterns.
Guided self direction
Sue’s coaching methodology is designed to ensure that the coaching client remains in the driving seat at all times. As a coach, she will challenge and support and guide, but the client must make decisions about both the goals of the coaching process and the strategies that he or she will employ. Kolb’s learning cycle - strategise, act, review, reflect - provides the foundation for the coaching process and coaching programs would generally involve:
- Goal setting – purpose confirmation
- Agreement about approach / process
- Exploration of key areas for improvement
- Debriefing past experience
- Exploration of relevant content areas
- Tasking: setting of key future tasks – for before next session
- Reporting of results of those tasks
- Debriefing results
- Clarifying learning.
